Sciatica Leg Pain

Sciatica Pain

Sciatica is pain or numbness down one or both legs caused by nerve or disc irritation in the lower back. Sciatic pain typically arises after a lower back injury, but can also develop from a slowly deteriorating disc in the lower back or from progressing spinal degeneration. Sciatica can begin as a subtle burning or numbness down one or both legs and then increase into stabbing or paralyzing pain that makes it difficult to walk, sit or even stand still.

Unfortunately, sciatica rarely arises by itself. Low back pain usually precedes or follows shortly after this leg pain presents itself. So two problems must be taken care of – first the immediate pain that almost disables or freezes a person’s ability to do day to day activities, and second, the underlying disc problem. The good news is that both are successfully treatable by your chiropractor. It can take time thought. Pain relief often comes within a short time, but stabilization of the lower back, disc and nerves that flow into the legs must also be accomplished. We are fortunate that chiropractic is very effective in treating sciatica and produces almost extraordinary results.

The back, spine and nervous system are too often overlooked in our society and healthcare. Because of this, problems that arise from the lower back are often ignored or treated as minor “nothing” conditions. This is unfortunate because had these developing problems been examined and treated early by a chiropractor, when the trauma was first experienced, our nation would not be plagued by rampant back and spinal conditions that have already progressed by the time they get serious attention. Don’t allow those you care about to suffer with back and spinal pain.
